Our vision is our way to interpret what we see around us. It is one of our 5 essential senses we have. IDEA defines Visual Impairment as an impairment in vision that, even with correction, adversely a child's educational performance.
If an individual has visual activity 20/200 or less, or has limited vision of 20 degrees or less at the wide point he or she is declared to be legally blind.
Students are classified into three levels of functional visions:

Low -tech:
- Large print Keyboards / Keyboard labels
- slant board
- Magnifying glasses
- Thick lined paper
- Tactile labels with Braille markings
Mid-tech:
- DAISY ( Digital Accessible Information SYtem)- are books that offer full text and synchronized audio and voice.
- Bookshare - is an online resource for individuals who meet the criteria of being vision impaired or have a print disability.

High-Tech:
- Electronic Braille note takers- a portable note taker that provides a choice of adaptive inputs
- Dragon Naturally Speaking- is a voice recognition program
- refreshable Braille display (RBD - is an electronic device that sits in front of a keyboard so an individual can read the text that is being transferred to a computer monitor using eight-dot cells.
